     Position Summary:

     The position of Communications Manager oversees corporate internal and external communication activities, supports organizational strategic planning, and the study of new business opportunities.  The position works directly with the Vice President, Strategy and Business Development to understand project concept, objectives and approach. Manages and/or oversees assigned projects from original concept through final implementation.

     Essential Functions:

     ·         Coordinates, creates and manages the internal and external communications including development of communication guidelines for the overarching organization.

    ·         Ensures employees are aware of changes and manages the communication protocol related to major internal projects within the company.

    ·         Distributes executive messages, prepares presentations and internal memos, and conducts meetings to share information. 

    ·         Provides communication coaching for employees. 

    ·         Represents our organization as needed to stakeholders, interested parties and the public.

    ·         Provides research and project support for departmental initiatives including the annual strategic planning process for the overarching organization and affiliate companies. 

    ·         Manages the creation and oversees communication project schedules, developing project plans and specifications, proposing deadlines, monitoring milestone completion, tracking all phases of the project progress, coordinating actions for problem solving.

    ·         Manages business partner expectations.

    ·         Manages preparation of tactical plans, presentations and written reports.

    • ·         Manages and assists with the creation of mission, vision, value statements, and business plans for the organization. Ensures communication strategy is consistent and reflects the organization’s strategic vision throughout the organization.
    • ·         Supports ideas with research and experience where needed.
    • ·         Manages and assists with maintaining content including videos and photography on company’s intranet and external website.
    • ·         Advises executive leaders on strategic communication and messaging on key initiatives.
    • ·         Shapes and implements internal communication strategies to inform, connect and engage employees.
    • ·         Manages and produces communication products in support of executive leaders internal and external communication needs.
    • ·         Other duties as assigned by the VP of Strategy and Business Development.

     

    Qualifications/Education/Experience:

     ·         Bachelor’s degree required in communication, marketing, business, or related field; Master’s degree in one of these majors preferred. 

    • ·         Five to ten years’ experience with marketing, communication, finance, strategy, business, or related field in a professional or academic setting or through an internship.
    • ·         Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • ·         Must be detail oriented and a team player.
    • ·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint required. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) is a plus.
    • ·         Ability to research topics related to the business through a variety of sources.
    • ·         Must be a self-starter and have a willingness to take ownership, follow through and execute.
    • ·         Comfortable with ambiguity and day-to-day variance in nature of work based on project/business needs.
    • ·         Proficient project management skills.
    • ·         Ability to think strategically, create effective communications, prepare tactical project plans and meet long range objectives.
    • ·         Ability to integrate critical information from diverse areas.
    • ·         Knowledge of insurance products, insurance industry, customer service, sales, marketing and intranet is a plus.
    • ·         Functional knowledge of strategies for disseminating information internally and externally using print and electronic media.
    • ·         Ability to synthesize, analyze and leverage multiple data sources when necessary.
    • ·         Ability to act independently and exercise good judgment/decision making.
    • ·         Demonstrated experience leading people and getting results through others.  
    • ·         Ability to think and plan strategically for organizational success.
    • ·         Strong interpersonal skills.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will be required to travel (sometimes long distances) to attend required meetings.

     ·         Work environment: The work is limited to the office environment with occasional trips to other office facilities or locations necessitating walking outdoors or driving. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
