Expecting the Unexpected
Building the Blueprints for Crisis Communication

During an unexpected media event, creating a clear and unified channel of communication is extremely important. However, many organizations don’t have an established crisis communication plan. Joe Carpenter has had a distinguished career including 20 years as a US Navy officer where he served as a spokesperson during such crisis events as 9/11, the USS Cole Attack and other high-visibility events. Since 2013 he has served as Vice President of University Relations and Chief Communications Officer for Radford University. Joe will discuss lessons learned in Crisis Communication planning, focusing on considerations for communicators at all levels when it comes to advance planning for the next unexpected event.
